Weekly Message 1st Sunday of Advent

Welcome to Advent!

This week’s Worship link:

We may not know the timeline for COVID-19 restrictions and when they are likely to change – but we DO know the timeline for when Christmas will be here – Advent gives us 4 weeks of preparing for that event.

We hope during Advent, each of us / all of us will spend some time preparing our hearts, our homes and our lives to welcome once again the Christ child.

We join with the family of Sheina Wait mourning her death, celebrating her life.

SHEINA WAIT (MARCHBANK)  October 28, 1929 – November 26, 2020

Our truly wonderful Mum passed away peacefully to be reunited with our Dad (Gordon) for Christmas.

Lovingly remembered by son Brian (Carolyne); daughters, Susan Ketchen (Graham), Chris Ketchen (Ian), Deana Nugent (Don); 10 adored grandchildren and bragging rights to 16 great-grandchildren, as well as sister Doris Hanson (Carl).

A special thanks to the staff at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for the incredible care Mum has received over the last three and one-half years. Please consider donating to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg 276 Hugo Street North, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3M 2N6.

Ever heard of Giving Tuesday? Well, Sherry, our social media / communications coordinator certainly has and she is trying to maximize its effect for the benefit of Harrow United Church.

Giving Tuesday is December 1st this year. Watch for it and for all the wonderful promotional material we have created.

Giving Tuesday will occur as we launch our Annual/Anniversary Appeal for those who already have a relationship with our congregation. A separate mailing will contain details, but we invite you to begin considering: What is Harrow worth to you? What value do you think it has for the community? What level of support would you consider to help Harrow be in a strong position now and into the future?

And in news from the Regional Council: Marissa Smirl would like to put together a virtual choir (congregation) performance of Silent Night that would be available to be used by all congregations that wished. If you would like to sing in this congregation, please fill out this form (https://forms.gle/2DQmhaKDugBh6kbL7), and instructions will be emailed to you. All video submissions must be received by December 8, 2020.

Until next week,

May the blessing of hope rest upon; may it fill you and encourage you. And may God’s peace and presence be ever near.

Teresa
