Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ on Thanksgiving weekend.
In this season of Thanksgiving, if you haven’t done so lately, I invite you to consider making a donation to Harrow United Church to support its continuing presence and ministry.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Gratitude –The gospel reading for this week is Luke 17: 11-18 – it’s the story of the 10 lepers who were cured, and the one who returned to thank Jesus. When we are young, our elders teach us to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. We don’t always remember … not when we are 2 years old, or 10 years old, or 67 years old … What difference does it make to say ‘thank you’?
Like any other mindset, gratitude has the capacity to influence our attitudes and behaviour, and even to shape our lives. If we dwell on hurts or resentments or regrets, life is dark and unsatisfying; if we choose to look for blessings, hope and joy, life, even when it contains sorrow or pain or suffering, is a precious treasure and we feel more contented, hopeful, and ready to handle things. Is today a good day to start a ‘Gratitude Journal’? Or to create a poster, put a note on the fridge, listen to (or create) a song or a dance that expresses gratitude …
On this Thanksgiving weekend, take a moment to say ‘thank you’ – to those who show you kindness, to friends or family … and to God. May gratitude shape our ways and our lives.
