Weekly Message April 18

Did you know that there are some who celebrate the Sunday after Easter as Holy Humour Sunday? In that vein, I share a recent story passed along to me:

Pontius Pilate was baffled as St. Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, came to him that Good Friday afternoon and asked permission to take away the crucified body of Jesus.

“What are you planning to do with his body?” Pilate asked Joseph.

“I want to lay Jesus’ body in my own beautiful, newly hand-hewn tomb,” Joseph replied.

“But why?”  Pilate asked with shock. “You are an old man, and it takes years to carve out another tomb! You have devoted many years of your life to preparing the beautiful tomb you have, and you may not have enough years left to make another one.  Are you sure you are willing to give up your own tomb?”

Joseph of Arimathea looked rather sheepish and dug the tip of his sandal into the ground as he explained, “Well, it’s not that big a sacrifice, really. He told me he only needs it for the weekend.”

Laughter is a gift from God, as Walter Farquharson reminds us in his hymn, Give to Us Laughter:

Give to us laughter, O Source of our life.

Laughter can banish so much of our strife.

Laughter and love give us wholeness and health.

Laughter and love are the coin of true wealth.

Whatever else is happening in your lives at the moment, I hope laughter finds its way bubbling up and out of your soul from time to time.

At the church, we continue to do the best we can to stay in touch with people and to find virtual ways of gathering.

Community News – Darolyn Pjachek, Dare to Clog instructor, has been continuing to broadcast her classes (free of charge), using the empty gym/Upper Hall at Harrow. She has been so popular, people are watching from around the world, and this weekend, has been invited to be lead one of the Worldwide Clogging Fun Dances.  “Every Saturday night for the last month, they have had 3 instructors from around the world, who do a ½ hour of clogging easy fun dances, and literally 1000 people log in, and dance along, and send selfies of themselves joining in.  It’s a way our clogging community has come together.”

Congratulations Darolyn. So glad you are keeping people active and bringing your enthusiasm and positivity to so many. Nice we can be part of this in some small way.

As always, if there is anything would like us to know about, or anything you need from us, please be in touch. Email either secretary@harrowunited.ca or tmoysey@harrowunited.ca. Phone messages are checked regularly at the church (204-284-0079) by Karen, and Teresa can be reached on her cellphone at 204-299-3991.

Stay well. Stay safe. Remember to breathe …

Until next week …

Yours in Christ,

Teresa
